Creating A Resume

A resume is a very common way to introduce yourself to a potential employer. As a tool, it is something no job seeker should be without. Even those with full time employment are wise to update their resume from time to time.

Your resume can be created without using a complicated template. Here you will enter your information down the page and use the Tab key to arrange elements across the page. By varying the font size and spacing, you can make a clearly defined but classic resume.

How to have a job-winning resume …

  • Always proof read your resume. Any spelling mistake could cost you the job.
  • It is important to always be honest with a resume. Making false claims can be grounds for losing a job.
  • Most entry level resumes should be only one page. Any more than a two page resume and you the employer won’t likely bother looking at it.
  • Customize your objective based on the job you are looking for.
  • Don’t be afraid to do more research on the internet to make your resume even better. Remember, there can be hundred of people looking for the same job. You need to present yourself as favourably as you can.
  • Personal information such as age, marital or health status, and race or ethnicity should be omitted
  • You can go beyond the categories presented here. If you’re a blue belt in martial arts… let them know. Won any awards or achievements… include it.
  • Special skills, like First Aid, driver’s license, computer skills, lifeguard certification are also important and should be included.
