Getting Started

New Brunswick

The Four Steps

There are four steps to create a Photo Story. It is important to do them in order. Complete each one before starting the next. Each step is detailed below.

  1. Selecting a topic
  2. Doing your research
  3. Creating your story board
  4. Creating your photo story

Selecting A Topic

While you could make a Photo Story about pretty much anything, here you are required to develop your Photo Story around one of these themes:

  • How to do something (detailed instructions of a process)
  • An educational theme (may or may not be school related)
  • You and/or your family
  • Virtual vacation (exploring a place you'd like to travel to)
  • Other topics with the permission of your teacher (check first)

Researching Your Story

To learn about conducting Internet research, check out the Internet research tutorial.

Creating A Story Board

A story board is an outline of your story. It includes both the images and text that you are going to use. Working with a story board lets you write and revise your story before you go into photo story. This improves your story, by letting you focus on what you want to say first. You then save timein Photo Story as you can get straight to the work of laying things out. You will create your story board in Word (or some other word processing application capable of working with tables).

Features to include in your story board
  • A header consisting of your name and the title of your story
  • A table containing, in order, the pictures you will use in your story and the text that will accompany it.
  • Include your sources for your pictures and information. Typically, this is a URL.

Your script needs to be the same as what appears in your Photo Story. If you make changes in your Photo Story because, for example, the script doesn't sound right, be sure to update your script to reflect the changes.
