Creating A Career Guide
Imagine that you have been asked to create a resource to help a group of students learn about a specific career. You can either create a brochure, presentation, or video to share your information.
Note: Depending on your class and which other modules you have worked on, your teacher might specify which program or format you are to use for your Career Guide. For instance, if you've already done a few sideshows, they may want you to use Publisher.
What to include
Be sure to cover these points in your Career Guide
- Main duties of career
- Training and experience required
- Where you can get the training you need
- How long it takes to become a _______
- Employment opportunities (What is the job market like for _____?
- Earning potential (How much does a _____ earn?
- Potential downsides to the job (Who wouldn't like it and why)
- Interesting facts about the occupation
Programs to use to create your Career Guide
You can create your guide in Publisher, PowerPoint or Photo Story (or another program if indicated by your teacher).
Publisher
If you use Publisher, you should create a brochure similar to something you might find in the guidance department. Create a two-sided brochure with either three or four folds (6 or 8 panel).
PowerPoint
In PowerPoint, create a slide show you might expect someone to show you if they came to the school to talk about their occupation. It should be lively and flow in a logical progression.
Other Programs
In some cases, your teacher might want you to use another program to create your project, or you may have a great idea for an alternate format. Check with your teacher to see if another program might suitable for creating your Career Guide.
